Vlos sits at the desk in a small room. The window beside it overlooks an extravagant garden. The room is plain, and bland for anyone’s tastes. She rummages through a few drawers before finding a few pieces of parchment. She sits one down in front of her, the rest off to her side. She dips a quill into the inkwell, and begins to write carefully. Her handwriting can barely be read.
“ May 29, 1006: Age of Order
To the Tradesmen of Evermoore,
I know that I have been gone for a lot lately. I know that I’ve promised to return so many times. I’ve missed the saving of the realm, and nearly losing it. Things haven’t been easy thinking about that. For almost a full year, I was in the Elder Trees Valley, helping to rebuild and defend the ruin. I’ve seen more tears than I can imagine. More death than I had ever seen in Evermoore.
I’m currently on holiday in Andor. I’ve picked up a few things here. Nothing to help me as a tradesman, particularly. Just, a few little things. I’ll be here until late July, when I think I’ll pay all of you a more than needed visit. I should be there for one of the two Market Days in August.
My prayers are with you all. With everyone who is fighting for the side of Evermoore, all the mundane citizens of this realm who try to survive, and everyone who is lost. You are not forgotten, and you are all in my thoughts. I hope that nothing that extreme as what went on a year ago never happens again. I won’t be at this memorial service I’ve heard about, but let it be known that I care and regret just as much, if not more than anyone.
Sincerely,
Vlos Valdriss
Protector of the Five, and Evermoore
Warlocks Guild”
Vlos takes the letter, folding it carefully. She rolls it up, and ties it to the leg of a raven. She whispers a few words into it’s ear, then lets go. It flies out of the window, and off into the sky. Pulling a new sheet of parchment over, she begins the next copy.
