Question of the month! (not really): Why do you go LARPing? What draws you to it? What did you think of it before you came your first time?
Discuss!

I go because it's a needed break from real life on top of being the most fun I've had being out in the woods. Also, everyone there is friendly and it's a lot of fun to be out of your own personality with people you can trust. It's worth the $30 to get away and have fun with people who share the same interests. I don't know, I guess there's just an appeal to it that can't be described in a bulletin board. What did I think of it before I came? Well, let's just say most of our group got to see pictures of Fletch (Mr. Bennett at the time... from then on, I would never see that man the same way again.) in costume before we even got involved, so draw your own conclusions please. It saves my hands for typing essays. ;D

I go Larping because it is a great exhibition of my sword skills( or lack there of), the ability to pretend with out someone telling me to grow up, and finaly i'll quote an mr T-shirt slightly when I say I get to not only see a great adventure, but live it.

Hmmm....well, long ago and far away I joined Markland, and SCA-type medieval history group. There, I met a man named Tony Kukal, who at the time had long blonde hair, and wore a leather jacket and rose a motorcycle. He was also in law school. He joined our branch of Markland, known as the Realm of the Isles, and he did medieval things with us. He persuaded some of us to come to LAIRE with him and we did, and had a great time.
One day, in the Realm cubicle, there was a copy of rulebook, about 40 pages worth (copied illegally on the Law school machines) with my name on it. I called Tony, and said "Hey, tell me about this. What's this 'Runecaster' class?" He told me what he knew, and we began planning for the first event, the following April (about 5 months away). You've all heard the "Camden sweatshop" stories, and they are entirely true. We had our first event in April 1997, and the rest is History. I have been playing Rinan ever since, with only one or two exceptions, and I believe I have only missed 4(?) events.
Why Do I LARP? Because I love to use my imagination. Because I love to play dress-up, and I love to associate with creative, imaginative fun people. I can think of no better way and no better people to spend all my free time with. My younger brother (police officer, former Marine SWAT team leader) said to me "so, you still ahven't outgrown that?". I never will.

Why? Because I feel like it. It's a chance to escape reality and hang out with awesome people

And now I realize that I've never posted my own reason!
Well, to begin:
I go so I can be to a place where people are like me. That's about it, really. I fit in here. Ever since Dan (Li Tun Yi) asked me to join, I thought that it was a dream come true, although I had my difficulties getting there the first time, my parents have pretty much excepted it, since there's nothing else I do.
"My life consists of three things at this moment, dennis. This computer, my job, and larping."
Soon four things, college pending.
When we found out that Fletch larped, I was suprised, but then again, I always thought there was more to that man then I thought. The way he looked, the way he moved, and the way he just generally acted made me feel as if there was something he was hiding. The irony of the whole thing is how much we laughed at him at first. We would never do that. But soon enough I found myself out on the trails enjoying myself with people I know and love. And I do not regret it at all. It's fun, it's safe, and it's one hell of a ride! I would suggest to anyone trying it once.
Although i do get ridicule. But I'll take that, no problem, since I know what it is and the person who ridicules makes speculations.
I'm proud to be a part of MR, because I doubt any other larp is quite like it.
Oh, and HalfDan...
